He spent his formative years on the family farm near Paddockwood, SK. At 18 he went to work in the oil patch in Alberta with his older brother, George - starting a career that spanned seventeen years and saw him rise to Field Superintendent with stints in Manitoba, Saskatchewan and the Northwest Territories. In 1955 he met his loving wife of 57 years, Gwendolyn Hiltz, at a dance in Christopher Lake, and they were married on May 5, 1956. Stan left the oil patch in 1969 and began a second career as a manager with Sears, while they were living in Regina. They raised their five children in the Regina area. After eleven years at Sears, they moved to a local country/golf club, Sherwood Forest, where they took over management. In 1993, Stan and Gwen retired to a small farm near Hodgeville, SK, where he enjoyed planting trees and working the land. In 2007, they sold the farm and moved to Herbert, SK, enjoying a beautiful house with a huge yard and garden. In 2012, with Stan’s health failing, they moved to Nanton, AB to be close to their eldest child, Calvin. Stan passed away peacefully in his sleep in hospital in Calgary. He lived his life in accordance with his values, principles and faith: unfailingly honest, always a gentleman, family was paramount, and he was a good neighbour to everyone he met.

A Funeral Service will be held at the Nanton United Church at 1:00 P.M. on Tuesday, September 3, 2013, with the Reverend Karl Shin presiding. Interment will follow in the Nanton Cemetery.
