MATHIAS, Margaret
June 26, 1912 – November 27, 2013

The family of Margaret Mathias sadly announces the passing of our dear mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother, who loved life and made the most of every day she spent here.

Margaret lived a strong, courageous and fulfilling life. She was teacher to us all, she provided a shoulder to cry on when needed, she made us laugh, she was our atlas, dictionary and encyclopedia when we had memory lapses, she gave us time outs as required and taught us all how to listen and appreciate and respect. She will continue to be an inspiration to us all.

Margaret was the eldest of 6 children and worked hard all of her life; first helping her family on the farm and helping raise her brothers and sister. After her marriage to Trevor, her time was spent working in the family store and raising her children in Sanders Creek, Alberta.

In 1963, Margaret and Trevor made Claresholm their home.

Margaret is survived by 2 daughters, Dianne (Ken) and Babe (Rex), daughter-in-law Sharon; 10 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Rose Shantz and her brother George Heemeryck. She touched the lives of every one of us and will never be forgotten.

Margaret was predeceased by her son Trevor Jerome Mathias, in April of 1971 and her husband, Trevor Mathias, in November of 1988. She was also predeceased by 3 brothers.

We wonder if God will open a casino in heaven for this dear lady…

At Margaret’s request, no formal service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Margaret’s memory to the Claresholm and District Health Foundation Box 2638 Claresholm, Alberta T0L 0T0.
