Grant was born on the homestead farm, west of Stavely, on November 11, 1918. He passed away in Claresholm, on Wednesday, November 21, 2012, after having celebrated his 94th birthday with family and friends, ten days previously.
Grant was the third youngest child of a family of eleven children, attending school in Stavely and Pine Coulee, often riding horseback with his siblings to get to school. He spent five years overseas in World War II, where he met his wife May, a Scottish war bride. Grant and May celebrated sixty-nine years of marriage and had one son, Gary (Janet). After serving in the Canadian army, Grant returned to Stavely where he farmed and ranched on the original Brown homestead. He remained active in farming, working until well into his 80’s with his son. Grant loved his family, and especially his grandsons, Dana (Marni) and Josh, and his great-granddaughters, Kasey and Sydney. Josh’s special friends, Gail, Cole and Micah were also loved and appreciated. He was always close to his brothers and sisters and all of his nieces and nephews.
Grant enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling. He was active in the Oddfellows, served on Stavely Town Council, supported the Stavely Rodeo and enjoyed visiting the Canadian Legion. He will be very much missed by family and friends.
