WADDEL, Allan Reece
November 16, 1946 – January 19, 2015

Allan Waddel, 68 years, died unexpectedly on Monday, January 19, 2015 at his home in Calgary. Al leaves behind Susan, his wife of ten years; his son Troy Waddel; his daughter Annette Mackenzie; his brother Walter Waddel; his sister Darlene Kinzie and his beloved cat Lewis. Born and raised in Brooks, AB, the son of Reece and Barbara, Al eventually settled in Calgary. In his early years, Al had to grow up quickly, helping raise his youngest sibling Walter. He left home at 16 to pursue a career in the oilfield. Al led his life in the highest respect of his calling. He worked hard and played hard. His job led him to many worldly adventures while still raising two children. Al’s life was the oil patch where he learned from the ground up and excelled to the top through his own diligence and determination. Al eventually started his own successful consulting company, Waddel Energy Services. Over the years, his expertise and reputation earned him a lifetime place in the Canadian Oil Industry. An honest and hardworking man, he earned the respect of his colleagues and developed lifelong friendships. A founding member of the Canadian Oilfield Riders Association, raising funds for his favourite charity, The Children’s Wish Foundation, Al received honours at their 20th anniversary for his organization of fundraising events in support of the Children’s Wish Foundation. He was a member of the Calgary Oilfield Technical Society for over 40 years and contributed to countless other charities. Al loved his Harley and was a committed rider. He had numerous experiences on excursions with friends, groups, alone and eventually with his Suzy, the love of his life. Al was a seasoned golfer and loved to play the game though he never gave himself the level of credit he deserved. He was a champion trap shooter and holds a large collection of trophies for his skills and expertise. Al loved going to movies, was an avid reader, enjoyed watching Blue Jays Baseball and loved to travel. At 6’4”, Al was a big man with an even bigger heart. He always had opportunities to display his generosity but did so discreetly, never looking for recognition. Al loved horses, had dogs all his life and eventually a cat; he loved them all dearly and all animals gave him great joy. As a loving husband, father and friend he will be dearly missed. Funeral Service will be held on Friday, January 23, 2015 at LEYDEN’S FUNERAL HOME (corner of 17th Avenue & 2nd St SW) at 10:30 a.m. Arrangements in care of Leyden’s Funeral Home (Claresholm AB).
